Doug Shuster, Africa Business Development Manager, South Africa Office

Doug Shuster serves at Manager for Business Development for Sub-Saharan Africa at USTDA, where he assists U.S. companies and overseas sponsors to implement USTDA-funded development projects and innovative public-private partnerships that lead to increased trade. His portfolio includes a wide range of investments to advance priority infrastructure projects in the region, particularly in the transportation, energy and power, and telecommunications sectors.
Prior to his current position, he managed the agency's South Asia portfolio. At USTDA, Shuster has also served as Evaluations Analyst, working with USTDA's Economist to perform program and project evaluation, and as Eurasia Project Analyst responsible for developing USTDA's post-September 11 strategy for Afghanistan and Central Asia. He was instrumental in opening USTDA programs in Afghanistan, Pakistan, East Timor, and the DRC.
Shuster's career has continually placed him at the nexus of the private and public sectors. As the Senior Trade and Investment Advisor to the U.S.-Asia Environmental Partnership, a joint program between the Department of Commerce, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Agency for International Development, Shuster worked to promote the transfer of appropriate environmental technologies from the U.S. to fifteen Asian economies. He has also served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Ghana as a Water and Sanitation Technician, where he developed sustainable grass roots projects while living in a rural village north of Cape Coast.
Mr. Shuster holds a Masters in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and a Bachelor of Arts from Clark University.
