South Africa Renewable Energy Grid Integration Study Tour
Dates: November 10-22, 2013
Locations: Austin and Houston, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Orange County, San Diego and Sacramento, CA; and Denver, CO
USTDA is hosting a delegation of eleven senior technical officials from Eskom, South Africa's public electricity utility, on a visit to the United States to explore U.S. technologies, equipment and services in the renewable energy sector. Eskom is the largest producer of electricity in Africa and one of the top seven utilities in the world in terms of generation capacity and among the top nine in terms of sales. Eskom is also responsible for the integration of new renewable power generation into the national grid. In order to facilitate renewables integration, South Africa's electricity infrastructure will require significant investments in smart grid and other grid balancing/integration technologies. Eskom plans to spend more than $150 billion on electricity infrastructure over the 2010 – 2030 timeframe, including $11 billion on transmission sector reliability alone over the next ten years.
A Business Briefing with the delegation will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 in Costa Mesa, CA.
