In cooperation with the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM), USTDA will sponsor a 2.5-day ASEAN Disaster Management, Mitigation, and Response Technologies Workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 30 thru June 1, 2012. The workshop will assist disaster management authorities from ASEAN economies in identifying appropriate technical and operational solutions as well as enhancing capabilities to adequately prepare for and effectively respond to disaster-related emergencies. Some topics that may be discussed include: regional cooperation and capacity building for disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness; technology applications for managing disaster risk; terrestrial and satellite telecommunications applications for emergency response; and meteorological tracking, hazards early warning, mapping, and engineering design for mitigation.

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is sponsoring eleven (11) delegates from Kazakhstan's Ministry of Health and KazMedTech, Kazakhstan's state-owned medical equipment leasing company, to visit the United States for a Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) in June 2012. The RTM will introduce U.S. technology, services, and products that can help Kazakhstan meet its goals for acquisition of new health care equipment. The visit will include meetings with the U.S. Department of Health and Human services, important U.S. healthcare technology providers, and leading healthcare associations. In addition, the RTM will include a site visit to Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City.

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) intends to invite up to twelve (12) delegates from Brazil's public and private sector aviation officials to the United States for a Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) in June, 2012. As a strategic part of the National Export Initiative (NEI), this visit will focus on familiarizing senior Brazilian officials with U.S. airport and civil aviation-related modernization technologies and best practices through site visits and meetings with public and private industry experts. The RTM will introduce the delegation to U.S. technology, services, products and best practices that can help the Brazilians in their airport modernization and upgrade program prior to the World Cup in 2014 and the Summer Olympic Games in 2016. This Reverse Trade Mission will bring a delegation of officials representing Thailand's rail sector. The delegation will be led by the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Transportation and will consist of other representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the State Railway of Thailand, the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy Planning, the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the National Economic Social Development Bureau. The delegation will visit the United States to gain exposure to U.S rail technologies and services providers through visits to U.S. facilities and meetings with U.S. companies. In particular, the delegation is interested in learning more about U.S. capabilities in areas such as locomotives and rolling stock, signaling/telecommunications/information technology systems and track maintenance machinery.

The APEC Business Aviation Access Workshop and Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) will promote dialogue to create compatible and more favorable regulatory and development environments for the expansion of business and general aviation operations in key Asia-Pacific markets. The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is sponsoring a two-day workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam to foster U.S. – ASEAN partnerships for state-of-the-art electricity transmission and distribution projects throughout the region. The event will highlight regional smart grid projects and initiatives, U.S. smart grid technologies, and the regulatory frameworks, standards, and financing mechanisms available to support them. Participating regional delegates will represent power utilities, national transmission corporations, and energy regulators from ASEAN member states. Representatives from U.S. companies providing equipment and services to the power sector should attend to learn about upcoming opportunities in the region and connect with senior decisions makers from ASEAN member states.

U.S.-Egypt Partnership in the ICT Sector: Gateway to the Middle East, Gulf, and Africa. Following on the success of USTDA's Egypt: Forward Forum and Site Visits this past summer, the agency will be hosting a two-day technical workshop in Cairo, Egypt focusing on forming partnerships between U.S. and Egyptian companies, accessing the substantial financial resources available for use in ICT projects, and utilizing the unique attributes of Egypt as a means to access the greater MENA region.

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) will bring a group of eleven (11) Ukrainian public and private power generation sector officials to the United States for a Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) in May, 2012. Consistent with Ukraine's plans to modernize its thermal power generation fleet, and in particular its coal-fired power plants, the delegates will be attending the Electric Power Conference in Baltimore, MD, visiting a U.S. power plant, meeting with U.S. Government energy sector officials, as well as U.S. vendors of power generation equipment, air pollution control equipment and power engineering services.
